Hypnotherapy for Chronic Skin Conditions Over the last 20 years there has been a definite rise in chronic skin diseases.  According to The Open Infectious Disease Journal (published 2012), chronic skin conditions are affecting 20-30% of a population at one time.  Many of these diseases in the past formed at an adult age but now they are more prevalent at infancy or even young adolescent. Aside from beliefs of a genetic transfer of disease in the womb, many believe our food, water, and prescription side-effects may also be to blame. These chronic skin inflammations include but are not limited to; acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and dermatitis.

The skin is your first defense against disease. Once it starts to become inflamed its defenses become weakened and disease is allowed to enter more easily. An escalated infection can go from an isolated skin issue to affecting ones vital organs and tissues.  “When the skin barrier function is disrupted by a chronic skin disease the microorganisms at the skin surface have direct access into the skin. Massive microbial colonization may lead to subsequent clinically apparent cutaneous infection and/or through colonization of the mucous membranes may lead to infection of nearby tissues and organs,” Chronic Skin Disease and Risk of Infection by Anne Braae Olesen.

Of course environmental factors like pollution and sun damage will affect the skin aside from internal factors like stress, nutrition, smoking, alcohol/drug intake, exercise, and hydration. Also, the natural aging process will begin to break down the skin and its resistance as well.   So there are many factors that one can control.

Studies have also shown that many of the chronic skin diseases that arise in adulthood may also be linked to not only stress, but also some trauma endured in childhood.  Studies have also shown that after working through said traumas, chronic skin conditions were alleviated.  Hypnotherapy is one proven modality and therapy used to heal chronic skin conditions. It has been used in the past for acne but as chronic skin conditions have grown, many clinics and hypnotherapists have become more progressive and are making headway in healing more conditions like psoriasis, and eczema to name a few.  The IHCP established in 1990 in Ireland, is an example of one of the progressive hypnotherapy clinics that has been hugely successful in healing chronic skin conditions.

Here in the United States, there are not as many progressive hypnotherapy clinics.  Sakura Skin and Mind is one of the few to offer hypnotherapy to address a multitude of skin concerns like uticaria, psoriasis, rosacea, dermatitis, eczema, acne excoriee and more.  Sakura believes that healing internal inflammation caused by trauma, stress, or inner conflict can in turn alleviate external inflammation on the skin.
